I have a BA Honours Degree in History from the University of Sussex. I specialised in 17th Century British History and European Social History. I have a Post-graduate Certificate in Education and taught History for many years.
Since 1980, I have carried out research for well over 2500 clients worldwide. The work has ranged from simple "family trees" through to detailed and comprehensive "family histories" - weaving the stories of their ancestors' lives into the historical context of local, national and international events.
For many years I worked as the Derbyshire Agent for Achievements, the research branch of the UK Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies. I also work for Price and Associates Inc of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; in the same capacity. You may have found me through the "FAMILY TREE" magazine.. I recently did research for the "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE" team for the Derek Jacobi episode.
In 2001 I was employed by the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA) to research and produce a guide to Genealogical Websites for the Government's "UK Online Centres". This guide was designed to encourage and facilitate the use of Genealogical Websites by the general public, whatever their level of experience.
I have lectured on original documentary sources for genealogy and local history studies. I am experienced in the palæography of documents back to circa 1500, and have worked in most of the main repositories in England, including the British Library (formerly the British Museum), the John Rylands University Library, Manchester and the National Archives at Kew, London.
Everything is relative!
